Do we believe every negative thing that is said about us, or do we turn to Jesus and accept what God has said about us? More than conquerors...not conquered. Loved...not unlovable.
Believe and speak what God has said about you.
Discussion questions
1. What are some negative things that people have said about you?
Write down a list of these things, but don't take them to heart....
God has better things in mind for you than you would ever imagine.
1 Corinthians 2:9 - But as it is written, 'Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.'
Regardless of what people might say, the way of the righteous is blessed.
Psalm 1:1-3 - Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also will not wither; and whatever he does prospers.
2. Regarding those negative things, what does God actually say about you?
Compare your list above with what the Word of God says about those things.
Do people say you're worthless? Jesus says you're of extreme value, and that God even knows the number of hairs on your head.
Do people say you're hopeless? Jesus died to give you hope!
Do people say you can't do something? With God, nothing is impossible (see Luke 1:37)! You are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus (see Romans 8:37)! You can succeed in doing all things that God brings you to do. Trust in Him, and He will act (see Psalm 37:5).
Remember that everything that people say falls short of what God has already declared. You have great value, you are greatly loved by God, and you have immense potential because of how God has created you.
3. What are some encouragements that God says gives us within Scripture?
God is with His children. He has made us amazingly. He has provided a way back to Him. He has great plans for us. May we cherish these truths!
Romans 8:31-32 - So what shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
He Who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall he not with Him also freely give us all things?
Psalm 139:14 - I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: your works are marvelous, and that my soul knows that very well.
Ephesians 2:4-6 - But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love with which He loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, He has quickened us together with Christ, (by grace you are saved;)
And has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Jeremiah 29:11 - 'For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,' says the LORD, 'Thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.'
Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
