A video of encouragement to follow Jesus, regardless of the cost. When God says 'Go' -- GO! By all means, follow His leading.
Discussion questions
1. Has God ever prompted you to go do something specific? How did you know God was telling you to do this? How did it end up?
God's desires line up with His character, and anything that God tells us to do is an opportunity for us to bring Him the glory He deserves. Whether He speaks through a passage of Scripture, through a 'still small voice', through confirmations from others, or whatever method, His advice will always line up with His character.
Often, doing something that God desires will also end up with unexpected results. Just as the rain and the snow work and bring about their results in nourishing vegetation, God's Word will never return with no result (see Isaiah 55). It may take time, and again, results may not be as we expect, but God is always working even when we don't consider that He may be doing something greater in the long run through our obedience.
2. Is there anything keeping you from full obedience to God?
Just as Hebrews states, whatever is keeping you from 'running' as best as you can spiritually, cast it off! Sin? Distraction? Discouragement? Negative thinking? Lack of time for the things of God? Both abandonments and adjustments can be made where things are unhealthy, but make sure that these can be done to God's glory. God will never tell you to do something that He hates. If our desire is to obey Him as best we can (and He desires this too), and given that He is a good Father who cares deeply for us, we need to take time to listen to God for His guidance and to seek out wise godly counsel as to how to honor God even in the most difficult circumstance. God is not the author of confusion (see 1 Corinthians 14:33), and He rewards those who diligently seek Him (see Hebrews 11:6)! Follow Him in obedience and faithfulness!
3. What can you do to obey God today, regardless of whether God has you doing something specific for His glory?
In all things, we should be obedient to God and faithful in following after Him. Our day-to-day conduct should model that of Jesus -- loving others selflessly, being sacrificial, exhibiting the results of the Spirit's work in our lives. If we love Jesus, we will keep His commandments (see John 14:15). All this should be done even in the most difficult of times.
Many miss this aspect of the Christian walk. When things go right and seem to make sense, we can be thankful to God. The mountaintop experiences are often much easier (though there are dangers of falling into sin in different ways, e.g. being prideful), but when we're in the valley, are we exalting God? Can we look at our situation and say just as Job spoke, "The LORD gives and the LORD takes away -- blessed be the Name of the LORD" (Job 1:21)?
