Are we spending the time we need with God to be full of His Spirit? Are we overflowing with His joy and presence, or are we ending up tired and weary, only to try to go about life in our own strength. We need to walk with God, spend quality time with Him in the Word, prayer, listening for His voice, and being filled consistently with His Spirit.
Believe and speak what God has said about you.
Discussion questions
1. How would you describe your spiritual health?
This assessment can be tricky -- sometimes we even get caught up in doing 'good' things and end up missing the point of loving Jesus and spending time with Him. There should be a balance between working to God's glory and spending time with Him. We can model Martha and do tons of things, and miss being Mary, who sat at Jesus' feet and spent time with Him.
If our lives are full of anger, doubt, or turmoil, we should also evaluate ourselves as to whether we're being faithful to God. I pray that God grants you a love and desire for Him, and that He brings you through all that you're going through victoriously!
2. Are you allowing enough time in the day to spend with God?
When you wake up, do you plan out time to spend with God? Before you go to sleep, do you have time set aside to spend time with God? When we get so busy (and it definitely happens) that we only plan out enough time to shower, eat, and leave for work/school/church/etc., we're putting ourselves in a rough spot. God definitely blesses us for any time devoted to Him. Remember what He instructed Joshua to do with His Law? "Meditate on it day and night" (see Joshua 1:8) -- and He promised Joshua great favor. May He grant you the same favor as you map out time each day to spend with Him, whether in prayer, solitude and silence, reading His Word, or listening for His leading.
3. What are some ways in which you can be refreshed spiritually?
Whether you can set aside some time to fast, pray, or even go on a spiritual retreat, be sure that you're not burning yourself out in various ways. Our lives have various tensions and balances, but we always need to keep Jesus FIRST! Oftentimes, the simplest things that we do are the most beneficial. Don't wait until you're overburdened to call out to God. He is here to keep us healthy, and especially spiritually healthy!
